The story of Pharaoh Akhenaten, Queen Nefertiti, and their immediate family incorporates a fascinating series of events unparalleled in history. These events alone are an incredible story known to us today through ancient Egypt's disciplined approach towards documenting events in stone and clay tablets, statues, and preserving human remains through mummification. These events become even more fascinating when combined with the birth of one of the most important world religions, Judaism. Both accounts involved the birth of a unique feature in religious theology that had never existed before - monotheism. In one instance, we have the fully documented and well understood promotion of a single god by Pharaoh Akhenaten. In the other, we have written accounts that date nearly four hundred years later, incorporating stories dating back to the time of Akhenaten. It is hard to imagine such a unique concept in human theology came into existence at the same time in history as being mere coincidence. |
